David,

You never get stale. You are always relevant. Interesting and articulate. Your comment that is not the WORDS we use, but rather the MESSAGE we present is so well put. However, I suggest that the message is communicated more effectively when we also choose the right words.

One other thin; do the dentist a favor. Privately or confidentially present your card with a link to this video. (This assumes you were and are happy with the quality of the WORKMANSHIP.) It would be a huge professional - and personal - favor. You certainly do not owe the dentist a favor, as you PAID for the services. And the dentist may not take it well, but that is his choice.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the world.

"Hey. There was a problem with those numbers from Tuesday’s meeting. We need to get this straightened out right away. Can you send me the original files so I can take a look? Thanks. DL"

Some people will view the comment "Can you send the original files so I can take a look?" in a very personal way, thinking you do not trust them, don't value the work they did, and in a worse case scenario, will make them paranoid that they are about to get fired. If you want to make someone be non-productive, this is a great way to do it.

Great post David!

Excellent communications council. It often boils down to "perception vs. reality", which magicians base their illusions upon. Thank you David.

Great post. I totally agree.

Remember the restaurant scene in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" where the women feed an idea to the father so that he thinks it's his own? Another great technique for getting heard.

While your at it, I'd suggest that adults listen to kids carefully, too...lots of great creative ideas for free.

I couldn't agree more, Bill. And when you consider that less than 15% of the message people hear comes from the words that were used, it's no wonder email is such a problem: 85% of the message is lost! Thanks for your comment!

To me, it seems that e-mail is getting to be one of most abused forms of communication known to mankind. Using e-mail is an easy way to send intentionally unkind notes to co-workers and is easily misunderstood-even if sent with the best of intentions.

I have been accused of sending "condescending" e-mails even though that was the furthest thing from my mind. The art of e-mail communication should be a college requirement for young people entering the business world and mandatory HR training for all employees who have been assigned a computer.

Well put David. I suggest that PowerPoint be like the old storyboards in silent movies. They set up the action.
